Mathematical Enrichment Programme

The International Mathematical Olympiad in 2015 was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 4 to 16 July 2015.

The Irish Mathematical Olympiad Role of Honour 2015 lists the top 22 contestants from across the country. Two members of the team invited to represent Ireland in the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad in Chiang Mai, Thailand took part in enrichment classes here in Maynooth University. Congratulations to Luke Gardiner and Oisín Flynn-Connolly for making the team and to all the students who took part.

The 28th Irish Mathematical Olympiad (IrMO), to select the team for Thailand took place in two rounds:

The participants of the IrMO - Final Round are normally attendees of the enrichment classes in one of the five training centres (UCC, UCG, UL, UCD, & Maynooth University) however, participation is open to all interested secondary school students.

  • The 28th IrMO Round 1 took place during the week 10-14 November, 2014.
  • The 28th IrMO Final Round was held on 25th April 2015. This more advanced contest consisted of two 3-hour papers with five problems on each paper. These contests took place from 10-1pm and from 2-5pm in MS2, Top Logic, Maynooth University and in other centres nationwide.

If you are still at school for the year 2014-2015 you will be eligible to participate in the programme and we look forward to seeing you once again in Maynooth. If you will have left school this year, you will not be eligible yourself, but we hope that you will encourage any of your friends who are invited to take part in the programme to come along to the sessions in Maynooth.
  • Training for the Mathematical Olympiad in Maynooth University began on 17th January 2015 from 10.00am to 1.00pm in Callan Hall, South Campus, Maynooth University. Registration forms were distributed that morning.

    Maynooth University ran training sessions for the 2014/2015 IMO on the following dates: 17, 24, 31 January 7, 14, 28 February 7, 21 March 11, 18, 25 April & 2 May.
Our local training contest took place on 14th March 2015.

    FULL TRAINING SCHEDULE JAN-MAY 2015

The classes were held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the above listed Saturdays in various locations: Callan Hall (CH) and Physics Hall (PH), both near the entrance to the South Campus; and classhall MS2, on the top floor of Logic House, South Campus. In so far as possible, the non-advanced classes scheduled for CH/PH will take place on the indicated days, and will be cancelled only in the event of a major problem such as a severe, prolonged, winter storm; but the order in which topics are covered, and the topic providers, are subject to change. The provision of the advanced class depends on the number of "second time" participants, and it will be cancelled if too few people indicate their willingness to attend on a regular basis. Of course, no individual first - or second-timer should feel bound to attend every single class, particularly on mornings with heavy frost or snow.
